When I sing for cancer patients in the hospital, I often struggle to find music that articulates our experiences with cancer. So, I began writing my own songs. “The Roar in Me” is the first in a series of uplifting songs to encourage those facing monumental challenges in life who feel helpless and alone.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this single a reality:
Ms. Dawson who was the first to listen and provide feedback; Jenna who first encouraged me to record the song; Sean Sankey, my wonderful producer, who took my little song and turned it into something epic; Jeff King for your brilliant guitar work; Barak Tamayo Design and Stephanie Bumgarner Photography for the beautiful cover art; my parents who always encourage me to step out in faith even when the next step seems scary; my sweet husband and biggest fan; the community of cancer travelers who inspire me everyday; and, most importantly, to my God. Without the love of God I would hide all my creations in fear. To quote an Article from Desiring God:
As we retreat from the treacherous and counterfeit roller coaster of human approval and hide ourselves in Christ, we no longer need to fear (Matthew 10:28), we’re no longer tempted to boast (1 Corinthians 3:21), and we will no longer cower to please others (Galatians 1:10). We will live, instead, for the pleasure of knowing God and being known by him (Philippians 3:8).
My experience with cancer taught me that love is deeper than even the deepest sorrow. Together we can ROAR in the face of cancer.
